The CMS Detector
February 2018
Some colourful pictures of the CMS detector, one of the four main ones which are operated in the LHC – Large Hadron Collider – at CERN. Looks artistic.
CMS stands for Compact Muon Solenoid and you can tell it's compact. In fact, I do wish I'd taken a macro lens along with me. Couldn't see a thing. Google once craned their Google Street View Car down the pit to offer more interactive views.
Gardeners around the world seem to agree that one way to make trees look majestic is to plant their seeds somewhere on the site of a particle physics detector, as my last picture here unequivocally demonstrates.
