Calpe
September 2006
Calpe, a welcoming Spanish town in Alicante, in the southmost half of the country, by the Mediterranean Sea, outlined by soft-grained beaches basking in sun.
I'm not sure whether my fondest memory of the trip is to have walked up the Peñón de Ifach bare-footed with a broken toe or to have spent a whole night on the beach with a metal detector, ultimately collecting enough coins for a free paella the next day.
