Berkeley

Berkeley, a city mixing wide, busy streets and a cosy campus up a tall hill which you can pleasantly stride up following squirrels in a rather natural setting.

If you climb the hill dominating the city high enough, you'll see San Francisco and its Golden Gate Bridge across the bay. Take the infamously noisy BART to reach it and overwhelm yourself with tall buildings and shopping streets. And there's the San Francisco cable car too, of course.
